Please remember though, that wood is a natural, organic product and will have the tendency to expand and contract due to weather conditions and temperature changes, which causes it to split, therefore as this is a natural reaction it cannot be avoided and merely enhances the almost 'living' appearance of your mushroom. Taking care of your mushroom will protect it more and help to keep the beautiful colour of the wood at its best.
